What was the date 1 month ago?

Solution

Sunday April 21, 2024

1 month before today was 21 Apr 2024, a Sunday. Subtracting 1 months in the past is usually just counting from May; however, longer calculations will push us from 2024 into 2023 or further. Even if the calculation remains within the year, I usually take note of the 21 days left in the end of May to prep for an additional calculation before April. But that’s all there is to it - understand the month, if 1 months will change the year, season, or fiscal calendar, and subtract your dates.

How we calculated 1 month before today

All of our day calculators are measured and QA'd by our engineer. Read more about the Git process here. But here's how 1 month ago gets calculated on each visit:

  1. We started with date inputs: used current day of 21 May, then set the calculation - 1 month, and factored in the year 2024
  2. Noted your current time of year: 1 month in May will keep us in May and we don’t need to worry about adjusting months or years.
  3. Counted backwards month from current day: date - 21 May, factoring in the 21 days left in May to calculate Sunday April 21, 2024
  4. Did NOT factor in workdays: In this calculation, we kept weekend. See below for just workdays or the fiscal calendar

Tips when solving for April 21

  • Current date: 21 May
  • Day of the week: Sunday
  • New Date: Sunday April 21, 2024
  • New Date Day of the week: Sunday
  • April is the end of the quarter and the beginning of spring. It's also Phillies Opening Day, so plan according and take the week off work! (Go Phils)
  • This calculation crosses at least one month. Remeber, this will change our day of the week.

Ways to calculate 1 month ago

  1. Calculate it: Start with a time ago calculator. 1 month is easiest solved on a calculator. For ours, we've already factored in the 21 days in May + all number of days in each month and the number of days in . Simply add your month and choose the length of time, then click "calculate". This calculation does not factor in workdays or holidays (see below!).
  2. Use May's calendar: Begin by identifying 21 May on a calendar, note that it’s Sunday, and the total days in April (trust me, you’ll need this for smaller calculations) and days until last year (double trust me, you'll need this for larger calculations). From there, count backwards 1 times month by month, subtracting month from until your remainder of month is 0.
  3. Use excel: For more complex month calculations or if you h8 our site (kidding), I use Excel functions like =TODAY()-1 to get or =WORKDAY(TODAY()), -1, cell:cell) for working month.

Working month in 1 calendar month

1 month is Sunday April 21, 2024 or could be if you only want workdays. This calculation takes 1 month and only subtracts by the number of workdays in a week. Remember, removing the weekend from our calculation will drastically change our original Sunday April 21, 2024 date.
